Hao Ji Tang

alias "HAO JI TANG"

Within five months of his release from U.S. prison, Mr. Tang officially changed his name to Hao Ji Tang under highly suspicious circumstances.  Mr. Tang went on, with his new name, to create his own consulting firm, Imperial Art Group, targeting the Asian art market. He fabricated an elaborate resumé detailing his supposed expertise in Asian art. With his new identity, he travelled to Europe and worked as an appraiser. He sold off objects he had acquired while also appearing in promotional videos, newsletters and catalogues, touting the quality of various auctioned items and his own expertise. Complaints were filed against him with the Better Business Bureau in Ontario, with one person claiming $30K lost to an auction insurance fraud scam. Attempts to contact him revealed non-existent addresses and disconnected phone numbers. In January 2014, Hao Ji’s prior identity and criminal history were discovered and revealed on the web.  Mr. Tang filed a defamation suit against one of his victims which was dismissed in December 2014. A countersuit filed by the same victim resulted in a judgment against Tang in the amount of $382,756.64 which is unpaid. Consequently, all of Tang's business listings and promotional activities describing his alleged expertise in art antiquities disappeared and he quickly dropped from sight, leaving large, unpaid legal expenses in his wake.
